Why Become An Academy Fellow?

That Sounds Hard: Why Would Anyone Put Himself or Herself Through That Process?

Do you wish to be a leader in your profession and be regarded nationally as such? Academy Fellows are an elite group, with very sophisticated negotiation and litigation skills. Academy Fellows teach and publish articles about the practice of family law. While the standard for admission is certainly high, the successful applicant takes his or her place among only 1600 men and women across the United States who are recognized as the leaders of their field. Prospective clients are attracted to attorneys who can off this special professional designation. The networking opportunities among these top attorneys in the United States are endless. Fellows are listed in the AAML certified list (distributed in written form and on the Academy website), that provides the resource for making referrals to other Fellows. An Academy Fellow who attends the national meetings, which take place in November and March, develops a unique perspective on family law, learning how other jurisdictions address complex, sophisticated, and highly emotional issues such as business valuations, tax issues, parent plans, and custody relocation criteria. Academy Fellows have the privilege of serving on national committees that have direct involvement in the drafting of Model Acts, including working with the American Law Institute to give advice and recommendations regarding national custody legislation.
