Family Law
Family law is a sub-specialty of the practice of law that concentrates on assisting couples with the divorce or separation process.
A family lawyer, sometimes with the help of other professionals, can help you with your parenting plan ("custody"), help you to equitably divide your property, and provide for financial assistance to the person who needs it from the person who is able to provide it.
Members of the Pennsylvania Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers focus a majority of their practices on family law matters. While the state of Pennsylvania does not currently have a "specialization" process for an attorney to indicate his or her primary area of focus, or expertise; the rigorous testing, interview and admissions process of the Academy ensures that only those attorneys with exceptional trial, negotiation, and settlement skills in the area of family law are deemed qualified to be admitted as Fellows of the Academy. These attorneys have been adjudged expert in their field by fellow members of the Bar, as well as members of the Bench before whom they appear.
Adoption, guardianship, probate, wills and trusts, while they are "family matters", are their own sub-concentrations, and you should always look for a specialist to attend to those matters.
